Leave A Legacy August 7 - 14, 2010

On Assignment in the Cayman Islands with Ty Sawyer

Here's your chance to leave your mark for history in one of diving's premier destinations, the Cayman Islands. We are heading to Grand Cayman on a special trip to find and name a brand new dive site. The best part is that YOU get to decide on the name. As part of the Cayman Islands' Dive 365 Program, to moor and name a dive site for every day of the year (currently there are 300), we'll scout, find and dive some of tomorrow's hottest sites, today. You'll join Ty Sawyer, Editorial Director of Sport Diver and Scuba Diving, on this one-of-a-kind journey. In between the search for Cayman's next famous dive site, we'll explore the best of the East End and the North Wall and even get to Sandbar before anyone else. We'll cover the journey everyday on our website, and feature the story in the magazine, too.

rayOcean Frontiers will be hosting at Compass Point Dive Resort, the ninth annual digital underwater photography workshop with Alex Mustard.

Be sure to book now to join a week jammed with specialized diving tailored for enthusiastic underwater photographers under the expert guidance of Alex Mustard.

Alex says, "I hope that you can join me in Cayman. This workshop is focused on Lighting, going back to basic principles and looking at the nature of light sources underwater, and how we different types of light must be controlled and can be exploited in different ways to create stunning underwater images. Cayman provides both wide angle, big animal (sharks and stingrays) and macro photo opportunities."

"Wide angle gives opportunities for both balanced light (reef scenics) and available light photography (stingrays and caves and caverns). The Cayman workshop includes a pool session, where I can work with everyone 1:1 to demonstrate strobe positioning for wide angle and close focus wide angle photography. Post processing is discussed, particularly in the image review sessions, but it is not the main focus of the workshop. There is no competition element in the week, which everyone always says helps promote a friendly and sharing atmosphere."
