October 5-Day Marine Camp

The Ocean Frontiers Marine Camp just got two days better....

If your kids are ready for more adventures and learning at sea, then our 19th-23rd October Marine Camp during the school break will be exactly what they are looking for.

5-Day Fall Marine Camp includes 10 half day subjects with in water activities and hands on experiences each day. New learning modules include boat and sea safety and shipwrecks. They will learn even more about the marine environment with new and expanded modules on everything from sponges to starfish, coral reefs and reef restoration, fish ID and photography, turtles, rays, sharks and learn about invasive Lionfish with a dissection demonstration. Suitable for snorkelers and scuba divers, and will be geared to children 10 years old to 17 years old.

Our focus is always a 'hands-on' approach for campers to learn by doing. Each morning and afternoon session has a 45-60 minute academic presentation, and then it is all about getting outside, getting out on the boat and getting in the water to enjoy and learn about the beauty of Cayman.

The Campers will experience the following activities:-

  • New: Boat Skills - learn the ropes of crewing a boat with fun teamwork challenges.
  • New: Sea Safety- practice safety drills, man-overboard, flare tests and a life-raft race.
  • New: Marine Parks- know the rules and know why.
  • New: Hazardous Marine Life- learn how to stay safe in Cayman's waters. What's safe and what's not.
  • New: Sponges & Invertebrates- the fascinating lives of Cayman's sponges and starfish.
  • New: Maritime History, wrecks and artificial reefs of the Cayman Islands.
  • Coral restoration in action and learn about our coral nurseries with hands on experiences.
  • Sharks, Turtles, Rays -  learn why we must protect them and observe them in the wild.
  • Lionfish -  Cull the invasive species and watch a full dissection, followed by a cooking demo and tasting.

The new 5-Day Marine Camp includes some of the content from the 3-Day Camp, but with the longer camp, the sessions are more hands on and no two camps are ever the same.

All open water activities (10) conducted each day will be from one of Ocean Frontiers'  dive or snorkel vessels that are certified and annually inspected by the CI Port Authority.

All activities are based at Ocean Frontiers Dive Shop in East End and all boat trips depart and return to the boat dock on-site.  Camp participants will be directly supervised by Ocean Frontiers staff from drop-off to pick-up every day.

Participants must be able to swim and be comfortable in the ocean and have their own dive mask and snorkel. All other equipment will be provided.

This program is designed and run by a qualified marine biologists and supervised by experienced dive masters and instructors who are trained and certified in CPR / First Aid and Rescue.
