Meet the Crew: Richard Trevaskis

Richard Trevaskis is an experienced and knowledgeable dive instructor and boat captain for Ocean Frontiers Dive Shop. Richard joined Ocean Frontiers in May of 2022, bringing with him a rich set of life experiences to bring to the table. Fluent in English, and dabbling in Pigeon French and Bahasa, Richard has worked as a dive instructor in a variety of locations in Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Vietnam - where he cut his teeth as a dive professional, and found his passion for instructing.

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Richard's diving journey began at the young age of 12, truly began to develop in 2013, he moved to Thailand to start his diving career. He enjoyed the lifestyle and life there outside of diving, but it was there where he fell in love with the not just the sport, but teaching it. As he developed as an instructor, he grew to love the experience of helping new divers of all skill levels overcome challenges to progress and grow.

Out of the many courses he’s completed and taught, among his favorite are wreck diving and sidemount diving. Currently, Richard is pursuing a course director certification to continue doing what he loves most - developing as a dive professional, and giving others the opportunity to learn and excel in SCUBA diving.

His passion for teaching is matched with one for marine life, with his favorite species he's yet to encounter being the flapjack octopus. Among species native to the Cayman Islands, his favorite is the purple crown sea goddess. When it comes to the SCUBA Diving in Grand Cayman, Richard gets particularly excited about the East End dive sites. He appreciates the diversity of experiences these sites offer, from cavernous areas with interesting topography to a variety of wildlife. Which makes his favorite dive site of the 55 a sensible one - Ironshore Gardens, which might be the poster-child for all of those qualities.

Aside from scuba diving, Richard has a diverse set of skills to compliment, including his ability to complete a Rubik's cube in under three minutes, and his dominating skill in the game of Monopoly. He is not just a caring, competent instructor, but also a sharp, capable boat captain and leader, and a valuable member of our dive staff.
