"Split Rock, named so creatively because of the giant split in the main wall, is one of the captivating deep sites in the Queen's Highway Dive zone," says our manager and dive instructor, Logan Panton. He particularly enjoys leading divers through the split rock where black corals, soft corals, and whips hang down, thriving on the nutrient-rich current passing through. He further explains, "The split in the rock is about 80 feet down, with a sand chute that opens up to a world of stunning hard and soft coral growth off the wall."
Our other instructors agree, Split Rock is a must-visit site. Evan Verreault says, "The soft coral off the wall, especially in the morning light, makes for some really stunning shots. It's a really beautiful sight to enjoy." Meanwhile, Andy Wilson sheds light on the exciting possibility of spotting sharks, "Split Rock is also where you'll find the Bash brothers, their main hunting ground. Of course we can never guarantee sharks there, but that's the best place for finding them on the north side."
Indeed, Split Rock provides an immersive and memorable diving experience with its varying topography, unique marine life, and the exhilarating possibility of spotting sharks. Remember to keep an eye out for the hairy-legged Brittle Stars nestled within the deep sponges, one of the many fascinating creatures that call Split Rock home!
